Poetry

Empty Rain by Rita J.

I watch the rain pour from a rooftop
Surrounded by dark clouds
Like a silent movie from the 1920s
Thinking of you with nothing but empty words
Of what I should have said
The sun used to set in your smile
Warming me on those freezing nights in December
The rain soaks
Leaving me cold and vulnerable
Missing you
The lines in your face form their own tattoo in my soul
Lightning strikes
My tears fall
Shattering into tiny broken-hearted pieces
As anger swells in the pit of my stomach
You never realized
The only time it never rained
Was when you smiled
